Day 845 What am I?

What Motivates me to Do what I do is the Truth. What am I? Who am I? What is reality? What is really going on? So take a look for yourself right now. Look at yourself. What are you? Check out your hand, your body. Check out your senses and your experiences. What are you? The answer is the same for all of Humans. What are humans? What are we? We were born in slavery. We were born with the Mind. The Mind and Body. What are you capable of? You can be aware of what you are experiencing. You can feel what is going on in this moment through your body.  What you are feeling and thinking doesn't have to at all determine who you are and what you decide to do. You are what you accept and allow. The Mind moves automatically as it does. Your emotions and thoughts move automatically as they do. Yet you don't have to identify as them. You don't have to listen to them and follow what it says. You can decide who you are and what you do. So the Mind isn't you. What I am is this combina...

Day 837 Death

Image
Death is quite the topic to look at. I think its because of the mystery of it. We don't really know for sure what will happen when we die. I mean you can have beliefs about it. You can even listen to what others say about it. But all of those are still words or belief. To actually go through it... Its like the first time being in love in a relationship, or having sex, or your first breakup. You don't know until you really go through it.  I see death as being something very important. It serves a very good purpose. Because in order for new life to arrive, other life must leave. That way it maintains a balance and prevents overpopulation. It is also important because it does put an end to things. And having that expiration also makes us care more and gives more value to our actions. It also gives others the chance after we fail for example. 100 years from now there will be new people here. Completely new. And I like that. I like that is how the Earth is.  It also means a ...

Day 34 Fundamentals of the Mind

Have you observed that with just the words THOUGHT, EMOTION and FEELING, (where emotions are the negative energy you feel and feelings are the positive version) constitutes most if not all of the human experience. Look how in your mind that in ANY given moment you are either having a Thought, an emotion or a feeling. Besides that the other option would be to have you awareness be placed within the body, such as in Breathing. Now, breathing fucks with the Mind. Because while you are breathing purposefully there is no space for your awareness to entertain a Thought.. So Breathing Fucks with the mind because no Energy is created. This is why the Physical is Key. But look how with these three words thoughts, emotions and feelings, you already describe any given moment of you life, past or present. So bringing your awareness and attention to THIS moment always you can STOP the thought, emotion and feelings and radically change yourself. ANYONE can do this. If you can prove to yourself t...

Day 19 Moana the Movie

I really like the movie Moana. It is made by Disney. I like the Water. I observed the water specifically. How the water acted is how I act with children. It is my philosophy of the best way to work with kids. You guide them and step in only when you are needed. And knowing when to step back. Making the statement Knowing when to step in and knowing to step back, you might be like WTF???? But at the same time, ask yourself, YOU, do YOU ever step back or hold yourself back when your working with kids or with your own kids. Or do you every time just step in naturally. If you never step back, then know your probably messing things up, lol. Cause for SURE there are moments to step back. For sure. Without a doubt. So, The water steps back and you get to see who Moana is. You get to see Moana make her decision, you get to see Moana realize who she is. You get to see Moana lead herself. When Moana gives up the water accepts. When Moana is ready to fight, but isn't strong enough th...

From Reacting to Myself to Knowing Myself 314

I was listening to someone's story about a situation and it reminded me of a mistake I did. Now, there is no way for me to know whether the person is making the same mistake as me. Why that is is because it really has to do with self-honesty, which requires the person seeing/assessing what her situation and who she is within that. So what she shared with me could be completely the case. And that case is that she is facing resistance to doing something. But there is a reactive response that I faced with resistance, throughout my life. That is that I have placed myself in the situations that I would face the most resistance, or that were very difficult and challenging. So this mentality and idea, belief, and desire that it is always good and best to put myself in a situation where I will face resistance, challenge and difficulty, is false. Why that is I can explain with examples. So the first example is that I wanted to be a philosophy major. I had different reasons why I wanted to...

Important Leaders need to dance Tango 283

Image
So I decided today that I am going to be sharing something FUN. So this is really for those who haven't danced partner dances before. So some partner dances include salsa, ballroom dance, waltz, and ... tango. So I have experience dancing tango for some years, on and off. I can say my teacher was very cool and he had perhaps the best approach you can take with Tango, so I felt very well prepared, and understood the principles of the dance well, and applied them well. So his name is Alex Krebs and he resides in Portland Oregon for those who are lucky enough to have access to his classes. But what I can do here is to share the principles of the dance. The principles themselves, you will see, are principles that you can apply in your daily life. So its really quite interesting. Keep reading to see. So while I cannot substitute for Alex's or even just a tango teacher's instruction, I can share what I have learned from tango and what parallels it has with life. So the struct...

Who am I? What is my story? -Yogan 253

Image
Yogan Who am I? What is my story? So I am trying to define myself, and place myself into words, categories, and descriptions, such that it encompasses my whole life, and all of my life experiences. I have experiences that cover spirituality, new age, gurus, christianity, philosophy, psychology, academics, living in the United States, specifically Miami, Florida, Hispanic culture, the Spanish language, going to public and private schools, being a guy, being an introvert, having dogs and cats, having divorced parents that get along, having a brother and a sister, being 24 years old, having a bachelors degree in psychology, having lived in Portland for 4 years, while studying at Reed College, being a straight A high school student, feeling lonely/alone, having crushes, being in relationships, having had sex, wanting to be married with someone forever, not knowing what to do with my life, not knowing or being sure there is a God, also not even caring because I hold myself to my own ...

I think therefore I am 200

Image
Hi so I will be explaining Descarte's famous written phrase "I think therefore I am." First I would like the reader to remember what he or she has learned this phrase to mean. So are you thinking that it means that thinking is what defines man? If so then you are thinking what most people think this phrase mean. So let me spoil the surpise, you along with everyone else is wrong. Though in a way you're right. Let me show you what Descarte meant: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ren%C3%A9_Descartes#Philosophical_work Initially, Descartes arrives at only a single principle: thought exists. Thought cannot be separated from me, therefore, I exist ( Discourse on the Method and Principles of Philosophy ). Most famously, this is known as cogito ergo sum (English: "I think, therefore I am"). Therefore, Descartes concluded, if he doubted, then something or someone must be doing the doubting, therefore the very fact that he doubted proved his existence. "...

Creating the greatest happiness - A look into Mill's Utilitarianism (day 185)

Image
So I will be continuing with the Moral Philosophy theme that I started yesterday with a post on Kant's Categorical Imperative .  I mentioned Mill's Utilitarianism, which was another topic covered in my introduction to Ethics course in Reed College. Let me say that Mill's writing is much more clearer or easier to read than Kant's writings. I copied and pasted this from wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilitarianism_%28book%29  ~~~~~ The essay is divided into five chapters, namely General Remarks; What Utilitarianism Is; Of the Ultimate Sanction of the Principle of Utility; Of What Sort of Proof the Principle of Utility is Susceptible; and On the Connection Between Justice and Utility. In the first two chapters, Mill aims to define precisely what utilitarianism claims in terms of the general moral principles that it uses to judge concrete actions, as well as in terms of the sort of evidence that is supposed to be given for such principles....

Are people just means to an End? A look into Kant's Categorical Imperative (day 184)

Image
I attended Reed College. In my freshman year I took the introduction to ethics course. In the course we covered Mill's Utilitarianism, Kant's Categorical Imperative, and Aristotle's Nicomachean ethics. I would like to share what I saw as important for human beings to be aware, which I received from reading the works done by these men. These important things are still relevant today in my life, and how I live. I copied and pasted a section from wikipedia on Kant's Moral Philosophy. I suggest for the reader to read through it, even if you may not understand everything completely, so to at least have an idea. I will then explain how I understood Kant's philosophy in my own words, and by examples.     Section from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immanuel_Kant#Moral_philosophy Kant is known for his theory that there is a single moral obligation , which he called the " Categorical Imperative ", and is derived from the concept of duty . Ka...

The Walking Dead TV Show -day 142

Image
If you ask most people what the walking dead tv show is about, they would most likely say it is about survival. I think that's wrong, I think its about living. I will try to explain why. For many people, the word survival is negative, and its about doing the bare minimum so you wont die. With this definition, a person who is surviving would have a crappy life. However, another definition for survival, which I think is more accurate, is simply taking care of one's basic needs that are required to exist here. These are not wants or desire, the requirements are NEEDS. Do you see the difference between a want and a need? So survival, according to this definition is something everyone who is alive today are most likely doing. And for some we are meeting this requirement better than others. For example, some people are dying from the lack of intake of food, so their bodies are slowly withering away. Their needs are not met. Those of us that have our survival taken care of, with...

Day 50: Science, Media, Knowledge, & Misrepresentations

Image
So in looking at the misrepresentations of science in the media, one thing that is often misunderstood is what psychology actually finds in their studies. A study could, for example, be researching obesity and linking this to depression. They may have 100 people report their weights, and based on some criteria to determine obesity, they link being over the "normal" weight to depression. What does it mean to link or associate or find a correlation. This means their is a signal that connects depression and obesity, which could either be that with more obesity their is greater depression (entails that lower obesity there is less depression) or with less obesity their is greater depression (entailing that with greater obesity there is less depression). Now this is all nice and all, though, however, what REALLY happened, is that a certain number of people showed SOME signs that there were SOME pattern with how depression and obesity occur. This DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING ELSE. Though ...
