Day-33: How we wear Masks of Anonymity as Society to not take responsibility of this Earth, some evidence from Social Psychology

Image
--> I wrote this as part of a Journal for my Social Psychology Class, check it out.  Also I realize this may read boring and academic, which it is... Looking at the readings since the last journal, I see the following days having something in common that is very important for me, the earth and our situation. So to start I will speak about each and especially the points that are most relevant. Group Processes I: Social Loafing & Social Facilitation             Social loafing is when you take advantage of another person. More specifically in a study we read by Hart et. al. the participants who social loafed where in the position to do so (their team mate was motivated) and the subject was not self-motivated to complete the task, operationalized as achievement motivation defined as a tendency of an individual to work toward the achievement of personal goals or standards. Group Processes II: Social Dilemm...

Day-30: Commitments are a Key to Aligning to What is Best for All, a look at some evidence from a psychology study

Image
--> So a really cool point opened up today in my social psychology class. We were looking at the tragedy of the commons, and the prisoners dilemma and ways that social psychology has found that may be useful/relevant. Both of these terms are common situations that are studied in different domains, one being Political science and another Economics.             So one point I remember I thought of in class but did not get a chance to share was that if one simply were to consider the factor of time and long term costs, then the tragedy of the commons and prisoners dilemma are straight forward. If you abuse everyone then you are giving permission to everyone else to abuse and so you guarantee that there will be drastic consequences for all, including yourself. So there is something wrong, or uneducated in the human in seeing the short term benefits, and see that through time the events that will come to pass. This is imp...

Day-29: Social Psychology: Self-Esteem & Self-Handicapping

Image
--> So for this Blog post I am going to ask Why do we accept and allow Self-Esteem as a force that directs our decisions, deeds, thoughts, emotions, and feelings, and essentially the world?             Self-Esteem has been studied in Social Psychology leading to some very interesting observations of some human behavioral phenomena. In a recent Blog, I had mentioned three terms from Social Psychology that are themselves Human behavioral phenomena that are widespread. These terms were Pluralistic ignorance, Bystander Effect, and Conformity. One can imagine how Self-Esteem, a term so abstract and intangible could have a hand in many many Behavioral phenomena and even just everyday behaviors, for instance, Self-handicapping. Externalization             If one do a quick search on the internet for the definition of Self-Handicapping one will find this definition...

Day-27: Defining Human Operant Conditioning

Image
So im going to take a moment here to explain some of the basics of human operant conditioning. The goal is to empower us with the obvious commonsense that we have adjusted our behavior to seek our own comfort and so within doing so we have essentially become passive and apathetic to Life. Since this requires Challenging, it will be difficult and so requires persistence. I could remember as a child I would fight for change in human behavior. So if you have such memories of yourself standing up because you knew something was wrong, I suggest you get back to that place where you were as a child and would be willing to face situations. This is a strength within the power of Honesty in Seeing Directly how things are and how things are Unacceptable, and So Take that Commonsense and APPLY IT.              I took a Learning class last semester the spring of ’12. I had throughout the class made many connections between The Real...
